Cyber Security Warning during COVID-19
While working remotely, employees and employers need to be on the lookout for identity theft and phishing schemes which have spiked during quarantine.
Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) has been on high alert. A domain name that mimics EEA’s legitimate domain name has been recently registered. Imposters have been sending convincing emails to clients of EEA requesting payment for illegitimate invoices.
The domain name used for these illicit emails is EEA-LLTD.COM, which contains an extra “L.” Fortunately, our affected clients in these situations have noticed irregularities within the fake emails and have contacted us directly. If you receive these emails, please do not respond or click on links; instead, please notify EEA.
EEA has opened an abuse complaint against this domain name holder and we hope to have a resolution shortly. In the meantime, we recommend that your IT staff blacklist the domain name, EEA-LLTD.COM, with your email server to prevent receiving any malicious or deceptive emails.
In addition to illicit emails, please also be on guard for irregular phone calls, text messages, and direct messages on your social media accounts.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Principal/Director of Client Relations Tom Petermann or to the EEA team members you work with regularly. You can also learn more about how to protect yourself from phishing attacks on the Federal Trade Commission website.
