Walker Park

The Village of Burr Ridge planned a large renovation of Walker Park in order to meet the growing needs of the community. Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) provided civil engineering services in connection with the park’s $700K redevelopment.

Park enhancements included:

  • New playground for children ages 5-12 and swing area
  • New Challenge Course equipment
  • Large picnic shelter
  • Renovated sand volleyball court
  • New cornhole/bags area
  • Plaza area behind Spina baseball field
  • Natural area/pollinator plants in NE corner of the park
  • Walking path renovations
  • New outdoor bathroom facility
  • Regrading/new drainage on 3/4 grade soccer field

As most of the site resides within the floodway and/or floodplain, EEA worked diligently with PRI for permitting through MWRD. EEA’s services included the following on-site elements:

  • Stormwater management detention calculations, exhibits report, and completed applications meeting the MWRD ordinance requirements
  • Floodplain and floodway calculations for storage requirements per the NFIP requirements
  • Pavements, walkways, and site concrete finish work
  • Finished grading with spot elevations and contours
  • Storm sewer design and underdrain design
  • Stormwater facilities design, including both volume control and runoff control
  • Compensatory storage facilities design
  • Floodplain and floodway profiles/cross-sections
  • Soil erosion and sediment control measures

This project was paid for in part with budgeted capital improvement funds as well as a $400K OSLAD grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
