The Sinclair

The Sinclair is home to 390 luxury apartments in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. Situated on 1.5-acres of prime real estate with frontage on Clark, LaSalle, and Division, this location is adjacent to the newly reconstructed Red Line Clark/Division subway station.

One of the challenges Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA)’s team tackled was to integrate the proposed underground utilities with the new subway infrastructure. EEA engineers collaborated with the CTA to creative problem solving to safely integrate existing CTA vents with proposed driveways, detention vaults, and utility services.

In addition to regular contact with the project’s MEP, architect, and landscape architect, EEA civil engineers closely collaborated with the construction manager, McHugh Construction. McHugh, EEA, and a plumbing subconsultant held multiple coordination meetings to provide the owner and the architect with cost-saving site improvements concepts.

The unique shape of the property created drainage challenges as well. EEA’s stormwater experts worked with the City’s engineers to develop a stormwater management plan that met the City’s requirements while remaining economical to construct.
