Snap-On Tools Distribution Center Building Addition

Since the 1920s, Snap-on Incorporated has been a global developer, manufacturer, and marketer of tools, providing professionals who are completing essential duties with top-of-the-line products. The company outgrew its 400,000SF distribution center in Crystal Lake, IL, which was the motivative for the industrial expansion and parking lot addition. Their goal was to double the space but also minimize their square footage. The current building is 160,000SF, and the height of the building doubled. The distribution center now has a 30-foot tall racking system and has 21 additional loading docks.

Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) performed civil engineering for this distribution center as a subconsultant to Interwork Architects. Since the parking area needed to be relocated and expanded, EEA completed a parking study and utility design for the parking lot. There were approximately 550 parking stalls constructed in conjunction with the building addition. A drainage study and a stormwater management study of the existing detention basin were executed to confirm compliance with McHenry County Stormwater Management. Lastly, EEA provided design services for the sidewalks and curbs.

Snap-On Tools now can more efficiently and effectively move and distribute products daily.
