O’Neil Aquatics Center
Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) provided civil engineering services for the redevelopment of the O’Neil Aquatics Center. The project included the demolition of the existing pool facility and construction of a new aquatic center designed to serve the surrounding community. Key features of the new facility include a lazy river, water slides, diving boards, and a splash pad that is free and accessible to the public outside the gated pool area.
EEA’s scope included site design for the new pool and splash pad, utility coordination, parking lot expansion, and stormwater management. A surface detention basin was designed to meet County stormwater requirements while minimizing impacts to usable recreation space.
A major design challenge involved the presence of existing 60-inch combined sewers on the site. EEA collaborated closely with the design team and contractor to navigate around these utilities, ensuring constructability and minimizing disruption. Additional coordination was required to maintain access to existing park amenities during park’s construction.
Accessibility was a central focus of the design, with efforts made to ensure that as many features as possible were inclusive and easily accessible to all users.
