Heritage Park

Heritage Park, a flagship community park in Oakbrook Terrace, was redeveloped to more accurately fit the active lifestyles of residents who wish to gather and play. Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) provided civil engineering services to PRI for redeveloping the existing park facility into a vibrant, state-of-the-art community recreation center. Totaling $1.1 million dollars, the project was funded in part by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land, Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program

EEA’s scope of work touched all features of the park including the pavilion/picnic shelter, multi-level playgrounds, volleyball courts, new pathways around the park connecting to the existing bike path, and even the parking lot. EEA’s services include the following on-site elements:

-Stormwater management detention calculations, design
-Pavements, walkways, and site concrete finish work
-Storm sewer design
-Stormwater facilities design, including both volume control and runoff control
-Soil erosion and sediment control measures

The park now features a multi-level creative play area for school-age children 5-12 years of age and a pre-school play area with a shade pavilion. Additional features include:

-Lighted entry plaza
-Pyramid climbing apparatus
-Two basketball half courts and 1 basketball full court
-Two tournament sand volleyball courts
-Renovated tennis courts
-Walking/jog trail with fitness clusters
-Improved path connections to the neighborhood
-Expanded parking area
-Open lawn area for kite flying and free play
-A prairie garden/interpretive area
-Landscape plantings
