Farm on Ogden

The Farm on Ogden is a central part of Lawndale Christian Health Center’s plan to revitalize and develop the surrounding neighborhood. Located in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, the Farm on Ogden is a joint project of the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Windy City Harvest and Lawndale Christian Health Center. This formerly derelict space has been transformed into an active 10,000 SF community hub and greenhouse which respects the neighborhood’s rich history while providing space for an indoor market, classrooms, commercial and teaching kitchens, and office/retail space.

As the civil engineering consultant for the $3 million renovation, Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) performed all site infrastructure designs and improvements. EEA designed permeable pavers for the front plaza as well as the rain garden which is adjacent to the parking lot. EEA performed minor grading for the parking lot. The parking plaza and terrace provide nine spaces for customers while also serving as a community space for farmers markets and fairs. Additionally, EEA provided utility coordination and construction administration support.

The project site was chosen due to the community youth garden already in place. The Farm on Ogden is located directly below the Central Park station of the CTA Pink Line. Not only is the location bike friendly, there is plenty of free street parking for visitors.
