CoreSite CH2 Data Center

CoreSite CH2 Data Center, located in the South Loop, is the first ground-up data center built within the City of Chicago limits. This 169,000 SF data center was constructed with sustainability in mind and features jaw-dropping city views – all while supporting high-density data requirements with excellent network connectivity.

Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the CoreSite CH2 Data Center. The facility, a four-story, lot-to-lot building constructed on a 1.6-acre vacant lot, is capable of providing a maximum of 104,000 square feet of data center space with an ultimate building area of approximately 175,000 square feet (including office, conference, and support spaces).

In addition to developing the design of all above-grade and below-grade exterior site elements, EEA also assisted on several design elements located within the building’s footprint, including the grading and geometric design of the loading dock as well as grading, geometric design, and utility coordination within the ground-level parking garage.

EEA also designed a stormwater detention system following the requirements of the City of Chicago, which led to the installation of a precast concrete detention vault (sized for the 10-year critical duration storm event) being installed within the parking garage.
