CoreSite CH2 Data Center
CoreSite supports data for financial, healthcare, and media companies throughout the greater Chicagoland. With groundbreaking in March 2019 and occupation in June 2020, CoreSite’s CH2 Data Center is the first ground-up, purpose-built modern data center in downtown Chicago. Located at 1432 S. Clinton Street in the South Loop, this 169,000 SF data center was constructed with sustainability in mind and jaw-dropping city views – all while supporting high-density data requirements with excellent network connectivity. Designed efficiently, this building offers optimized connectivity access, high-count diverse dark fiber connecting CH2 to CoreSite’s CH1 data center, high resiliency, and sustainable focus. Customers deploying in CH2 have access to all the major cloud providers and over 40 networks within the CoreSite campus. CH2 delivers a rich community of enterprises, best-of-breed solution partners, leading cloud service and content providers, and expansive network options.
Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the CoreSite CH2 Data Center. The facility, a four-story, lot-to-lot building constructed on a 1.6-acre vacant lot, capable of providing a maximum of 104,000 square feet of data center space with an ultimate building area of approximately 175,000 square feet (including office and support spaces).
In addition to developing the design of all above- and below-grade exterior site elements, EEA also assisted on several design elements located within the building footprint, including the grading and geometric design of the loading dock and grading, geometric, and utility coordination within the ground-level parking garage.
EEA designed a stormwater detention system following the requirements of the City of Chicago, which led to the installation of a precast concrete detention vault (sized for the 10-year critical duration storm event) being installed within the parking garage.
