Aurora Sinai Medical Center Drainage Remediation

Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. (EEA) worked with Aurora Sinai Medical Center to address a chronic flooding issue at its medical library and employee patio area that are located on the west side of the hospital complex. EEA observed, evaluated, and surveyed the existing field conditions to determine the flooding causes, in addition to interviewing facility staff to gain a better understanding of the nature and timing of flooding events.

One of the key issues that EEA successfully resolved was the need to create a visually appealing sidewalk and gravel patio that also eliminated the water drainage issues facing the hospital. Additional challenges included a small site space with a larger tributary area, as well as the need for meticulous grading due to the library’s multiple doors and the proximity to the truck dock and ambulance drop off.

Upon completion of the site assessments, EEA prepared the necessary design documents for permit and construction. The project was completed in 2020, successfully eliminating the flooding issues.
