Mike Renner and National Engineers Week

In 1995, Mike Renner joined Glen Eriksson when he first opened the doors to this civil engineering firm. To kick off Engineers Week, Mike, Principal and Vice President, reflects on the first 30 years of @eriksson engineering associates, and the key milestones that have made this company what it is today.
Taking a leadership role from the beginning, Mike helped the firm grow and thrive, surviving the ups and downs of the dot come era, great recession, COVID, and the political landscape. Mike says, “It’s great when the economy is doing well and everyone is busy, but it requires you to step outside of your comfort zone, to network and build relationships with people, it’s also the growth of individuals that we saw; the younger less experienced people stepping up and taking on more responsibility that really helped the company move forward during the tough times.”
Looking back, the things he is most proud of are helping the company to move from a three-man shop to a 31-person, employee-owned corporation, as well as networking and developing what would become 30-year client relationships that are built on a trust resulting from the incredible skills and hard work they see in our staff.
There have been many key milestones, such as adding new technology like AutoCad, internet and email, adding key individuals in marketing, business development and accounting, expanding our market and geographic reach, and adding traffic and landscape services. And even though technology changed the way we communicate, his most memorable moments are hand-written notes from clients who appreciated the team’s hard work and dedication.
Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers, Engineers Week unites engineers, students, and communities across the nation to celebrate how engineering shapes our world. In his time here, Mike has embodied this mission by showing exceptional civil engineering abilities, but also a commitment to mentoring staff and helping them grow in their skills while building client relationships.
Thank you, Mike, for your leadership and dedication to the success of EEA.
