River Village Pointe

In the heart of River North, one of the City’s infamous old warehouse districts, EEA has collectively designed six developments along the east bank of the north branch of the Chicago River.

These riverfront developments, known as River Village, are bookended at the south Huron Street and at the north by Hobbie Street. The north end features a linear park crated within the former Kingsbury Street right-of-way. The south end one-acre riverfront park provides direct access to the beautifully landscaped river walk.

Collectively, the River Village developments cover more than 10 acres of property and include more than one mile of public and private street right-of-way improvements, requiring additional approval from local governmental agencies.

Consultants from EEA worked closely with multiple city departments to design infrastructure systems within the new street right-of-ways to provide services for the new developments. The Larrabee Street improvements were designed by EEA, constructed by the developer, and turned over to the City of Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).

EEA additionally designed modifications for Kingsbury Street, Oak Street, Hobbie Street, Crosby Street, and several other private roadways within the development. Considerable coordination with the landscape architect, the electrical consultant, and the structural engineer—in addition to the owner and architect—were required to ensure the overall success of the river walk system and the project as a whole.
