504 N Green Street Apartments

504 N Green Street Apartments is a transit-oriented development (TOD) and mixed-use high-rise offering residents ultimate accessibility. The two-site, 14 and four-story residential and retail complex, conveniently named after its location, was formally known as Kenect. The 504 N Green Street Apartments location is convenient for residents to commute to River North and the Loop. The property is walking distance from grocery stores and hip bars and restaurants, including The Dawson, Duck Duck Goat, and The Publican. Property highlights include a co-working lounge, fitness center and yoga room, community room, landscaped roof deck with fire pit, outdoor kitchens and television, swimming pool, private dog run, and party room with kitchen.

Civil Engineers from EEA were hired as consultants on the project to ensure the building site integrated with the busy, transportation-oriented location. When a striping plan was requested, EEA followed Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) standards to generate designs marking traffic and parking lanes along N. Green Street as well as bikes lanes on N. Milwaukee Avenue. EEA also designed curb bump outs on the corners of N. Green Street to protect parked cars and offer more room for pedestrian walkways and landscaping.

During the project, the design team was tasked with addressing structure concerns due to old vaulted sidewalks along W. Grand Avenue and N. Milwaukee Avenue and adjacent to a CTA underground L structure. EEA prepared and coordinated plans to infill the sidewalks that were later approved by the project’s structural engineer and CTA officials.

EEA managed additional site improvements including stormwater detention design and the repaving of streets, alleys and sidewalks. Engineers also ensured the residential buildings, retail entrances, outdoor patios and a nearby CTA bus stop all complied with American with Disabilities ACT (ADA) standards.
