Northern Illinois Medical Center & MOB

Since 1989, EEA engineers have provided campus infrastructure master planning services for Northern Illinois Medical Center, (NIMC), a 200-bed facility located on a 115-acres campus.

EEA has implemented and updated several key elements of the NIMC plan as various building expansion needs have been addressed. Specific projects have included site improvements for a new medical office building, a day care center, heliport and hanger facilities, emergency, surgery and outpatient departments, zoning and land planning assistance. Additionally, EEA has assisted in the planning and design of parking for more than 700 vehicles, water system infrastructure improvements, sanitary sewer extensions, and stormwater management.

The NIMC healing garden, an increasingly popular feature on healthcare campuses, provides a place where patients undergoing chemotherapy can relax in a therapeutic environment. Features include extensive vegetation, winding walks, unique seating options and a babbling brook. The garden, designed with EEA’s help, is located in a previously unused courtyard, in close proximity to the new cancer care center.

Civil engineering improvements designed on the campus have a construction value in excess of $6.5 million.
