Loews Hotel

Opened in March 2015, the Loews Hotel is a 400-room luxury hotel located in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood.

EEA provided civil engineering services on the project and was tasked with solving some unique design challenges. The hotel’s three separate levels for residents, hotel guests and loading, two on elevated roadways made navigation and ease of access critical considerations. Extensive coordination was required with the structural engineer and other design team members to accommodate the elevated roadway/bridge revisions and building/roadway interface.

Often in the City of Chicago, various infrastructure improvements are made to accommodate larger and newer facilities. As part of this project, EEA worked with the City of Chicago to obtain approval for sewer extensions within the public roadway after discovering the sewers in the street were extremely shallow and undersized. Additionally, the entry grading on the site was unusual with the adjacent roadway sloped down at a 5 percent clip across an approximately 60-foot entrance. With innovative grading techniques, snow-melt systems and other pedestrian-safety considerations, EEA consultants were able to help the client stay on budget while providing a well-functioning site for hotel guests.
