The Echelon at K Station is a high-rise apartment building in Chicago’s west loop, conveniently located across from the flagship Jewel grocery store. Restaurants and nightlife are steps outside while the expressway, ‘L’ trains and Metra stations are all in close proximity, making this a popular area for Chicago residents new and old. The building includes 35 studio, 245 one-bedroom and 70 two-bedroom units, along with an outdoor pool, fitness center, library and media room.
The most challenging design aspect in the development of the Echelon building was the coordination of finished floor elevations. These levels needed to meet both improved Jefferson Street and the elevated Des Plaines Avenue bridge deck, facilitated by EEA. The project also featured the design of a one-acre park which included a tot play structure, walking paths adorned with sculptures, a terraced lawn for outdoor theater events or a place to just kick off your shoes and lounge in the afternoon sun. Upon project completion, Chicago-area developer Steven Fifield said the development would create “a community that will provide residents with a sense of arrival and belonging.”
