In 2014, Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54 wanted to consolidate its early childhood programming from multiple locations within the 27-school district to a centralized Early Learning Center.
To create this complex, the design team was tasked with connecting the existing administrative building and maintenance facility to a new school building.
EEA’s civil engineers and Director of Traffic and Parking were included on the design team to solve challenges that resulted from the large site expansion.
To accommodate the approximately 800 students served by the new center, EEA redesigned the parking lot to include more spaces and improve circulation. Designated bus drop-off and pick-up areas were added for efficiency and safety.
EEA team members secured permits and approvals from the local municipality and agencies to expand the existing detention pond to fulfill the increased stormwater management requirements.
Today the center has 20 blended classrooms, 4 full-day instructional classrooms, library, gymnasium, screening area and family resource center.
